hey ya guys sorry im confused can anyone give me a break down simply on retro events if i were tpo buy a 106 like patricia dennings or 205 or a mini iv no idea of what is going on pre 1985 or afterwards cheers

It's totally down to what you want to do with it.

Navigational Rally Retro cars for class 1-6 need to be reg'd 1977 or older
Class 7 for Retros requires model to have begun manufacture before 1/1/85 which (if you are operating to a pretty tight budget) gives you the option of Starlets (up to 1989), Corsa, E30 BMW's and Sierra's (not sapphires). However, In this class the number of autotests in retro events definitely gives fwd cars the adv - so starlets or corsa/novas are the cars to get.

If you are doing Multivenues then pre 1990 cars - last weeks event was an exception.

Autotest only - you can use what you want.

what about a 1990 mini?

Id say it would be fine in class 7 Guy. Been in production since 1959 after all Very Happy

ure under 25 arent u damien? how do u get insured on the clubman? thats my main problem. i want to be able to compete in a class alongside eamon and everyone but i cant get classic insurance anywhere until im 25 as far as i can see anyway

I used to just do temp transfers, but if have your own insurance on your everyday car, you probably have cover for driving other insured cars, if so you could insure the retro car on a classic policy in your dads name. Then you could drive it.

probably easiest to do a temp transfer on the weekend, they usually do it free or charge something like 30euro.

problem is that im insured under my dads name on my car. i got quoted 3k to insure it in my name

is there a limit to how many times u can do that in a year?

I think there is with some companies. I was with hibernian and used to do it about 10 times a year for free with no problems. I think they just persumed my car was crap and broke down all the time Very Happy

well thats handy then im with hibernian too;)

They used to sometimes crib about them being so old so not sure how you would get on with a mk1 or something.

What insurance companies are you trying Guy? If you contact the Irish Vintage Society, they do classic insurance using FBD. Basic 3rd party cover on a classic starts at €135. I've got fully comp, agreed value on my cooper and merc for a combined €450. And they're open driving. Also try Axa. They have a very good classic car section, and the guy that looks after it is a classic expert, really knows his stuff.
