Just to let people know, the car running order is not a seeded entry list. The field has be ordered based on double drivers, class of cars, and a scattering of experience. This will ensure a smoother flowing event, with hopefully no bottle necking.

What is the proper etiquette when queuing for tests? At the last event a marshal told us to pass any unoccupied cars in the queue, which we did. I did this later however, and a driver wasn't too happy and squeezed back in front of me when he got to his car? Wasn't sure what i was supposed to do!
Silly question I know but just wondering?

Hi Leo, Not really sure if there are any unwritten rules. If there are empty cars with the drivers not in sight and the cars are holding up the queue, the by all means pass them.
At the last event there were a lot of drivers leaving their cars and going off for a gander, holding things up.
It is even more important for double drivers to get to the head of the queue and keep things moving as it will take them twice as long to do the event.

Leo,
Its informal; based on the bygone gentlemanly age of non-confrontation. First come first served ; to the startline : - Driver and Car.
The argument starts when someone comes back to their car; as you have indicated happened. This is unreal : it overlooks the officials will be standing out in the cold and/or rain for longer because competitors cannot get their act together.
A bit of a hobby horse of mine ( directed not at you Leo, but with an eye to a specific elsewhere ) : but I would firstly point out to all Motorsport Ireland events are firstly under a Sporting Code. Competitors are obliged to behave in a sportsman like way : and for those who do not know or care to ignore it : as a gentleman/person .
Autotest regs update 2010/2011 season also deal with the issue of delay at test starts : DONT ! It pisses off marshalls who are always getting harder to find.
With so many entries cars on tests is the objective.
If you are double driving you must keep up in the queue.
As a point of interest : last year several competitors did not get to complete the event because they delayed too long and it got too dark ! You have been warned !!
& I have a Munster rugby match to try and see.

I will cover this issue along with others at drivers briefing. Generally speaking if there is a seeded entry list, then there is a running order to adhere to. However, in this case, the list isnt seeded, so after the first test is completed, you can pull up if there is a gap. Hope this helps

Final Instructions |
|
Final Instructions TDC Multivenue Autotest 16th Jan 2011
Drivers:
• Drivers /marshals sign on 8 am in suite 1 above the pit garages.
• Marshals briefing 9 am in suite 1.
• Drivers briefing 9:15 am at the stairs near the pit lane.
• First car starts on all tests 9:30 am.
• Briefing is compulsory for all drivers and marshals.
• There will be an official lunch halt at 12:30pm. All cars will cease competition on at their test to allow for a lunch break for marshals. Recommencing at 1pm. Drivers may leave the test queue to return to the pits but must return to their test before 1pm for the restart. Note: to access test 5, competitors must travel through test 4, so allow time for this.
• There is a shotgun start i.e. we will send the first 17 cars to the first test and so on. All drivers have been given a car number to aid the easy flow of the event i.e. double driving, classes etc. Apart from this, car number given is at random. All tests start at 9:30pm
• Please note your car number and the test that you are due to start at. It is important that everyone starts at their allocated test as this will avoid unnecessary delays. Double drivers - the driver with the lowest number should go to their allocated test and do a full lap i.e. complete 5 tests and then the second driver will start their first lap.
• Double drivers are not allowed to sit as a passenger on the first lap. If caught doing this both drivers will receive a fail for that test.
• Take caution when approaching pylons and chicanes. They are first gear maneuvers.
Starting Location:
Cars 83-68 start test 1
Cars 67-53 start test 2
Cars 52-36 start test 3
Cars 35-18 start test 4
Cars 17-1 start test 5
Passengers:
All passengers must be signed on. No unauthorised passengers allowed. Any driver not adhering to this will be excluded from the event.
2011 Competition Licence:
We will have a declaration form available for you to sign if you have applied for your 2011 licence but have not received it .It is important to note that you cannot sign this form if you have not applied for your 2011 licence.
Parking for Service Vehicles and trailers:
Parking will be on the main straight after Dunlop and in the paddock near turn 1 i.e. on entering the paddock at the control tower turn left. Marshals will direct.
Canteen in Mondello:
There will be no catering facilities available in Mondello.
General:
Please arrive in plenty of time, take care when driving in and around the paddock and from test to test and obey the instructions of the marshals at all times.
TDC would like to thank you for your entry and wish you an enjoyable and safe day.

Brilliant event... Many thanks to Mark, Trish and all the marshals.. A very slick operation.. At an event like this the only complaint is that it's all over too soon..

Terrific day, it really was over too soon Piers, I could easily have done another lap or two! Many thanks to Mark Doran, everyone in TDC as well as all the marshals for putting on such a smoothly run event as usual.
