There is also a need for navigators. I have been asked by 3 people already ! and one of my suggestions has a seat as well. The road navigation is straight forward tulip ; and the selectives are giving directions and route instructions, and code bord/passage control/stop box procedures. Its good fun ; so if anyone is interested could they pleses contact myself (087-6774967), Trish or Frank Fennell as COC.

Tim

PS : Trish is very good at the 'matchmaking' so if you put your name forward we will try to arrange a suitable seat !

Entries Update!

The Wicklow contingent are just as quick off the mark with their entries as they are at the start line. Daniel Byrne and Kevin Fagan, who took victory on the recent ALMC Trial will be looking to make it two in a row. They won't have it all their own way as they will be challenged by Eamonn Byrne with his regular navigator Anthony Preston. Next up is Eddie Peterson who will be fired up following his recent successful Rallycross campaign. Eddie has recruited the experienced Sam Johnston to keep him on the straight and narrow. John Maher and Tim Faulkner are an all Wicklow team and have proved that they are a tenacious crew, they thoroughly enjoyed their recent outing despite their mechanical woes. Keith Slowey is another local driver to watch who is competing on home turf.

The MX-5's are well represented from all parts of the country, leading the pack is Robert Woodside jnr who has Dean Beckett for company. This very successful pairing will be keeping everyone on their toes with their display of neat and tidy driving. Allan Harryman and Suz Graham are another notable crew who will be at the start line in Bray. Philip Mc Ilvenna and Piers Mac Fheorais complete the MX-5 line up. Dermot Carnegie and Paul Bosdet in their lovely Mark 1 Escort will be quick out of the blocks and entertaining as ever. John (Hurricane) Nolan and Dave O'Leary are another exciting Dublin crew who will tackle the testing Wicklow terrain. The very consistent Frank Lenehan is sure to feature in the final line, Damien Philips and Paul Tierney are another team to watch out for in their immaculately prepared Starlet.

Damien Doran and Anthony O'Neill fly the Wexford flag in their Starlet while Stefan Walsh and John Roseblade hope to do the Kilkenny cats proud. The North County Dublin / Meath entries are headed up by the mixed crew of Noel Devlin and Deirdre Gallagher in their reliable Skoda Felicia. Brendan O'Rourke and Dermot Hassett have their Peugeot 106 on song and will be looking to build on their recent experience. Martin Devine has been working hard on his car and will be another one to watch out for in the final line up.

We're very fortunate to have experienced crews who are more than happy to help out newcomers to Endurance Trials. We have put a buddy system in place so we can assign all newcomers to an experienced crew who will cover all aspects from time cards to reading the test diagrams etc. Please email me to let me know.

See you on March 31st!

The Dubs are now begining to show their hand with the addition of the two very experienced O'Donoghue brothers. Karl & Graham are both suitably mounted in Rovers and are looking forward to tackling the undulating Wicklow terrain. Their father Frank does a huge amount of work in the background and has been instruemental in promoting Endurance Trials in Ireland. No doubt they will be keen to do him proud. The ever improving James Mansfield who has Tim Canniffe on the notes has shown it's not all about power as they successfully steered their Mini to a very competitive finish on the recent ALMC trial. David Hayes with co driver James Casey threw the cat amongst the pigeons when he was quickest on some tests on the last trial and they will be hungry for another good result. Noel Broderick makes a welcome return to the driving seat and has Eoin O'Curry for company. Rest assured they will have their Starlet firing on all cylinders. Another driver who is sure to feature in the final line up is Mark Doran in his Mark 1 Escort, Mark is a accomplished Autotester and this experience will stand to him as he takes on the various challenges throughout the day. Mark will be joined by fellow Dubliner Mark O'Neill.

Greg Starr will make the journey from Tipperary in his class 1 Civic and has Kildare man Shane Cody on the maps. This pairing enjoyed a successful day out on the recent trial and will be out to challenge the Dubs!

If anyone has any queries or needs any help (I don't mean with engines or gearboxes!)please let me know.

Patricia

Evening Piers, this should give you an idea as to what to expect:)

Plans are well underway for the first TDC Endurance Trial which takes place in the scenic Garden of Ireland. The two Frank's (Fennell & O'Donoghue) have been hard at work and have secured some new and demanding test sites as well as some of the old favourites. There will be a huge variety of surfaces ranging from tarmac to grass which will test the skill and bravery of driver and navigator. Dr. Frank and Photo Frank have a few surprises in store so expect the unexpected. There will be no code boards or stop boxes, these have been replaced by passage controls / route checks and road mileage will be low.

The day will start off with a short, sharp test in Karibu, which will act as a gentle warm up for some of the more challenging tests that crews will face during the day. Ed Holfield has kindly provided the next venue where there will be a couple of exciting tests on hard and loose surfaces including a 2km "belter ", crews will return here in the afternoon for another crack at them. Competitors will be visiting the wood in Castlehoward (thanks to Ivor Fitzpatrick and Mark Sinnott) for two impressive tests, one of which will be repeated. Castlehoward has a wonderful backdrop with rolling hills and stunning scenery however, discount it at your peril as it has proved to be very slippy and has caught out many drivers, myself included in the past. Next up and by kind permission of Sammy Wolmington is a fast 1.5 km lanes type test. Sir Robert Goff of Ballincor Demense has generously provided the next two challenges, the first is well surfaced and quick while the second one will be tricky and includes lots of water! Competitors will then head high up in the picturesque Wicklow mountains where they will encounter a quick 2km test in a forest followed by a short road section allowing them a breather before tackling the next test.

A victory on the TDC Trial requires stamina, speed and faultless execution but these qualities are worthless without reliability and a little bit of luck!

Congratulations to 17 year old James Driver who passed his driving test today with flying colours, I suspect Niall has been relegated to the passenger seat for the TDC endurance Trial!
