As a postscript to the Christmas MVAT, I feel it is worth mentioning the commitment of our competitors and officials who, despite the dire weather prospects, made it to Arklow. Only three of the 53 drivers who entered failed to appear. The officials deserve even more credit given that the incentive for them is not quite so compelling!

A propos the event itself, as usual, the Sapphire timing system was backed up with time cards. Given that the operators of the timers don’t use them on a regular basis and, despite their apparent operational simplicity, finger frailty does intrude, albeit very rarely. It is important that competitors keep an eye on their times on their phones so as to spot anomalies. If any, these should be brought to the attention of the results team. In similar vein it is vital that times are recorded on the time cards which should be handed in to the results team when “full” complete with “Car No.” and “Name”.

Completely agree with Ian's words above. The Marshals were amazing to spend their holiday making our event happen, is less than ideal weather conditions. Without these Marshals and helpers, great events like this would never happen.

We will keep improving and streamlining the timing system, with more training/instructions and changes to help the devices work better in the heavy rain.
