Beginner’s Autotest Stepaside 24th June review |
|
Wow.. Great evening of fun.. Many thanks to all those who were involved is getting it to run so smoothly including Ronnie Griffin, Paul Phelan and of course Frank Lenihan ... Had a bit of a glitch with the hydraulic handbrake when it decided to seize.. It eventually started working near the end... More later...

TDC Beginners Autotest Stepaside 24th June 2009 |
|
The 2009 TDC Beginners Autotest Championship got off to a great start with Round 1 held on a beautiful sunny evening in Stepaside on the 24th of June.
A good entry of 43 competitors took to 3 fast, fun and varied tests around the farmyard, with all marshals doing an excellent job of keeping tests clear and queues to a minimum.
As with all events, the usual problems/mishaps were to be expected. Declan Hendrick was the first casualty, when a slave cylinder leaked fluid onto his brake shoes and he was unable to continue. Piers MacFheorais was next with hydraulic handbrake seizure and then I decided to wake up some spectators by coming into a test finish sideways...fire extinguishers are harder than they look!..."It isn't the first time and it wont be the last" - Wise words from Andrew O'Donohoe.
Congratulations to Piers MacFheorais, who recovered from said handbrake trouble to take home the best beginner award, Damien Doran for best novice and also to Christy Grimes who took best overall honours. See the Results section for more.
I would like to extend my thanks to all marshals, organisers, chefs and fellow competitors for tips and advice, with special thanks to Ronnie Griffin for organising a fantastic event and Frank Lenehan for the venue.
The next beginners event will be held on the 12th of July, venue TBC.
Philip.

Great review Philip... Just one small point.. Myself and a few others were down as beginners and after having a word with Paul Phelan we have now become Novices. Its only fair as we have been at it for a year..
An updated results sheet will be posted as soon as I get it.

Ok Piers, I'll update the review accordingly when I see the new results. I thought it was a bit strange you were put down as a beginner as you have done quite a few events

Well done to all involved. Has to be one of my favourite events of the year. Great to see so many beginners out too.
