Please note the updated Tyre Regulations effective from 1st January 2023, contained in the link on the original post.

The definition of a 'Retro' car has been clarified.

Competitors in any doubt about the regulations should contact myself or the relevant CoC of the event in question.

Note - The 2023 MSA ‘blue book’ with the applicable tyre lists should be out very soon. The tyre list in the above link is 2022 and presumably not applicable for 2023.

The 2023 MSA Blue Book and tyre lists were published today, see page 212 of below link.

For the avoidance of doubt and for clarity to all - can someone from the committee confirm that it is in fact the 2023 tyre list that is to apply to the rule changes, not the 2022 list as linked in the bulletin?

We will confirm our regulations tomorrow evening after the Committee meets, but at this time we expect that the new 2023 list will be applicable with regard to banned tyres. This will keep us aligned with events run in Northern Ireland which was a large driver in this regulation being enforced.

Please note the Tyre Regulations have been updated to reflect the new MSUK Tyre List for 2023, including further clarifications.

Anyone in any doubt as to what tyres are now permitted on TDC events are advised to contact the CoC of the event in question.

This bulletin will also be forwarded to competitors prior to any event for the forseeable future.

Hi lads, I’ve a friend interested in doing the next MVAT, he has a valid licence. He has competed in other competitive car events in the past, but has never done a MVAT previously.

What rules apply to him for tyres? He doesn’t have any 1A tyres and probably won’t buy them just for this event.

Brian

The rules that apply to everyone apply to everyone.

Motorsport is not low cost!

The abiding principal here is following the spirit of standard cars; & not following Formula One-esque angels-on-the-top-of-pins semantics !

Thanks for clarifying Tim, I just wasn’t sure when there was mention previously of it maybe only applying to the more experienced classes.

So everyone must have 1A tyres, apart from the Escorts / Retro cars.

It was announced at drivers briefing at the April MVAT that the tyre rule would only apply to the expert class

Hi Paul, That was only mentioned as a possible future direction, but the committee decided not to move ahead with that change.
