Circuit of Ireland Retrospective Trial 2009 - 'The Retro Rally'
Oct 9th to 11th 2009
We are very pleased to welcome you to the Circuit of Ireland Retrospective Trial 2009, which will take place over the 9th, 10th and 11th of October, starting from the Island Civic Centre, Lisburn, Co Antrim at 1200hrs on Friday.
The event consists of cars primarily from the 60’s and 70’s although we will also be graced with cars from the 30’s.
Don’t let their age fool you though, in the right hands these cars can leave you speechless with the way they perform in the tests.
Now in its 24th year the event will see a facelift from its usual format.
Originally the driving tests were more auto test orientated, but we are now testing the water with what are known as special tests. These are usually
run in only one direction and are longer than auto tests, giving the drivers a real opportunity to stretch their legs.
We have some awesome venues this year for our special tests including the Joey Dunlop Paddock at Dundrod which will consist of gravel, concrete, tarmac, mud and wood all in one test.
There will also be a spectator special in the grounds of Wallace Park on Friday at 16.00 hrs to give the crews a chance to WOW the crowds with their driving skills as they navigate the narrow lanes in search of the quickest time.
We have adopted a theme this year and our plan is to show the locals, and those who have travelled from afar, some of those places steeped in motor sport history, such as the Dundrod TT Circuit, the Ards TT Circuit, the Craigantlet Hill Climb course and Kirkistown Motor Racing Circuit.
At Kirkistown the drivers will be pitted against each other in a head-to-head special test to truly test their nerve.
May we also take this opportunity to welcome the first running of the Retro Mini Challenge to honour 50 years of the Mini.
This new event will run alongside the Retro on the Saturday leg of the event.
Special thanks must go to Lisburn City Council whose support has been invaluable as they celebrate the 400 year anniversary of the city.

If you do it that way it, with the ' best' guys last, it tends to keep the entry closed up..
Best first and it keeps spreading out. You then need 'pauses' or dead time to allow people to catch up.
That's the theory
Good guys don't tend to like it that much: they get all the waiting around and delays.
