Engine transplant |

How s the form lads
this is my first post on this forum
I am lookin for some info about building a mini for autotesting, retros etc.
I m currently building a mini clubman GT and am thinkin of putting a Toyota twin engine into it.
If John F golden evr heard me say such a thing, i think he d lose the plot, however cheap power
I m wondering if these types of transplants are legal for this type of motorsport
any info on the subject, i would be very greatful

Hi Joe, Welcome along.. I'd say it should be OK for retros. One of the current competitors has an Opel redtop engine in a MK1 Escorts..
Ger Lawlor has been looking at the idea of fitting a Twin cam Starlet engine & gearbox to a mini. It looks reasonably straight forward and has be done many times before.. In fact you can buy a subframe for the conversion..
Here is a link to a site with lots of conversions. The 4EFTE is the turbo version of the 4EFE (1332cc 16V Starlet engine (100bhp in Jap spec)). You can also use a 5EFE (1500cc).

Id imagine since theres a specific mini class in retros it might be a problem. The escorts are just in a saloon class. Although if it wasnt aloud you could probably run in class 7 (the everything else class). The mini class cars mainy stick to period type mods.
Also bare in mind that for normal autotests you cant have wild bulges etc in the mini saloon class so you may have to use a clubman front to fit it in.
Lots of info on the build here www.16vminiclub.com in the toyota section

Well it d be either a toyota engine or an m11 nissan micra engine, because whenn all is finished its about 20kg lighter than the A series engine.
Have a look at the Micra engine transplant on the mini forum,
However, i think it would be more in my line to finish the car standard and enter an event.
