new to this, need help to decide |

Him guys james is my name and hopefully i can join you guys soon. Im ready to get involved but the big question is, Trials or Auto test. The excitement and precision/skill of the autotest really appeals to my ego (of course i think i would be great lol) but i dont have a trailer. The trials are right down my street too, classic rear wheel drive cars are lovely. I got my first fast car 2 year ago and still drive a subaru legacy b4. I always wanted a big fast car but now that i do, i miss messing in my old corsa/micra etc, subaru is great but mostly just in a straight line. I did want to go rear wheel drive but dont want to wreck my everyday car but while looking for old rear wheel drives for doing track days, i found this site a few weeks back and remember watching trials on eurosport as a kid. Anyway, do any members here use the same car for both? any good ones for sale? I do see a few rwd boxys on done deal but rather buy a prepared car (always nervous buying a car). Is it a bit stupid of me to ask this? Anyway would love if somebody could meet up with me at the next event and fill me in. I am also available too help out. Thanks guys

James.
You actually have another option as well. The half-way house of multi-venue autotests.
Start off by going to IMRC's single location multi-venue autotest ( ! ! ! ; we'll go anywhere to have an event ! ) next Saturday (Paddy's day ) at Punchestown Horserace Course.
The TDC Endurance Trial is best experienced as a marshall ( official) to get a feel for what's involved.
After that there is the TDC International Trophy Autotest and 1st round of our annual beginners championship.
And of course you could always join TDC for the very good value of €20.00. The form and contact details (to me) are on this site.
You can track events on our list of fixtures, and should use the Motorsport Ireland website for information, too.
As a beginner, a Starlet should get you going at any of the choices you have, though the Endurance Cars do tend to be more robust ( sump guard is a must; a cage is optional).
Come along to something and someone will help get you up to speed.

Thanks for the reply, I will certainly attend next week, is there a fee for spectators? I have already mailed Patricia to ask who besides tdc Ireland i need to join or sign up to so i can maybe get going by the March 31st event. I am also a paid member of ISDC (SUBARU CLUB) and hope to post regular so others can view how easy it is to take part. Are all the cars stripped out or do some drive road cars cause i aint got a trailer. I am looking at an mx5 for a great price could i take part in all events using that? do others? Hope we can meet up when down there. I also told Patricia i am ready to volunteer until i can drive. I am going to begin a new post asking people what i need called the list, i want people to add to it as they see fit. so many starlets i have no idea what is suitable but the mazda there's just the one model. If you wanted to take part in them all what would u pick? thanks p.s maxda 1996 is 100 euro so starlet would be cheaper but probably needs more work?
