Okay guys i want to clarify a few things if anybody has the time. I wish to take part in the endurance trials and autotesting. I see in the older post http://www.tdcireland.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=309 maesdavid was looking for the same car and he was told mx5 or starlet. I love to drive and have never had a rwd car nor a convertible so i am leaning towards the mx5 as long drives will be more enjoyable. I would like to know what should be done to a 96 mx5 to make it adaptable in all events. I also would like people to add stuff i might not think of. I am not going to strip her out but shoud i install a petrol tank in the back for safety? or is that just a weight saving measure? mostly do i need to ask for special insurance? Can i just put in wifes name and drive it on my subaru insurance as somebody elses car fully taxed and nct. (cant give it to her full time as she is only learning to drive so she is in a megane coupe (could strip that out at later stage lol). The mx 5 is not pre 1985 but a lot of people seem to have them, are they still able to compete in retro events, just not competitively or whats the crack cause i cant figure that out. Im happy taking part alone until i decide on fully autotest or trials?

sump guard
trip meter
timer
fire extinguisher
petrol tank?
stiffen springs?
special tyres?
any licence?

please amend as you guys see fit and thanks for any advice. will be in Punchestown. I have also been looking at rwd starlets from 1984, obviously its classic but does that mean they dont need an nct? afraid they would fall apart at that age

An Octane.ie thread that deals with some of the issues you raise

http://www.octane.ie/forum/showthread.php?t=57391

You need a Motorsport Ireland Competition ; which is half price if you are a member of TDC ( or another MSi club)

Appendix 35 of their 'blue' book has the regs for Endurance Trials.
http://www.motorsportireland.com/Rules-and-Regulations/Yearbook-2012.aspx

Simply put : an MX 5 needs more work put in than a Starlet. Limo, shocks, some strenghtening, tyres.
BUT .............. why are ther so many Mk.2 Escort rally cars ?

Because Rear wheel drive is far more fun whan you get the ahng of it ! !

Sounds like the car on offer is too good to pass up.

And all I can say, again, is go to a couple of events : do your research and talk to people

I have'nt got this together properly in my head, but you also need to sort out IRDS rally scheme insurance letter ASAP.

You might give me a ring to go through some of the " needs"
