Hi David, If the event is based at one site you do not, but most MVAT's require driving on the road between test sites.

In Multi-Venue Autotests where there is driving on the open road between test sites, one driver in each car is required to be registered with the IRDS insurance scheme and to pay the premium (€15 is the standard rate for a driver without any loadings) with the entry fee.
This provides third party cover which is legally required.
