The 9th Rally of the Tests |
|
From the Tyne to the Tweed
The Rally of the Tests moves Northwards this year starting in Newcastle and making its way via Kendal, Dumfries and Glasgow to Peebles in Scotland. The crews will tackle 30 tests and 15 regularities in some of the nicest areas of Northern England and South Scotland and on some classic rally territory
There's a nice mix of cars entered with a good showing of Irish crews including Ted and Karen Gaffney in a '60 Mini, Mickey Gabbett and Michael Jackson('65 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super), James O'Mahony and Paddy McDonnell ('64 Volvo 122S) and Joe Reynolds in a '55 Magnette. Drexel and Praticia Gillespie will be flinging the mighty Sunbeam Tiger around the tests to the delight of the onlookers.
Normally it's the drivers over here importing the navigators but the shoe is on the other foot for this one with the navigators importing Irish drivers Frank Lenihan and Cath Woodman wheel out the '62 Mini Cooper again this year after a strong finish last year, Frank Fennell has Kevin Savage giving the directions in another '65 Alfa Romeo Giulia Super, Dermot Carnegie teams up with Iain Tullie and will be hoping for better luck this year in his '62 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint. Tom Callanan and Chris Towers haven't declared what they will compete in yet but no doubt they will be in the hunt for honours when the event gets to Peebles

To clarify Tom Callanan and Ted Gaffney's positions, because they are in Post 62 cars, they don't count for O'all positions. But counting them in unofficially their approx o/all postions are :- Ted is 33rd , 20 secs ahead of Tom who is 34th
It looks like Frank Fennell had a problem with the Halda at the start of the Friday section and collected a lot of points.

Dermot had a very good day on Saturday, dropping the least nr of points (1.31 mins), which puts him only 33 secs behind Paul Wignall, who is also in an Alfa.
James OMahony had the second best score on the day, which hauled him up the leader board, while Tom Callanan must have had a major problem as he dropped 1hr 40 mins.
Looks like it's going to be an exciting last day.
