Am I reading that correctly?? Is is that every tyre there is banned or is it that only those tyres are legal?

Exactly what I was thinking, what's the point in banning it if everyone uses it already?

id say its the whole entry level motorsport thing. ie nothing that is performance orientated. everything has to b cheap. prob is the a008 is cheap good performing and one of the very few 165x10 tyres still around in production. its going to b interesting to see how this pans out

"Everything has to be cheap" - So basically the perfect set of A008's that I have on my car will now have to be thrown out and I will have to buy new tyres
I just checked the minispares website, the only other 10" 165 section tyre is a Falken FK07E, but it's only £2 cheaper....

I wudn throw them out yet. I can guarantee that nearly no mini driver will turn up to cork with anything other than a008s on their cars. I know I won't. I've got no other tyres to choose from.

Fair play, they'll soon change their mind when they realise they have effectively shaved half the field from their entry list if they don't allow the Minis to run...
Also, it really is only the mini drivers being affected by this, the A539 Starlet/Nova tyres aren't on that list...

Its the A008R that is now banned, the normal A008 that we use normally is still fine to use. The rule was brought about to standardise the tyres used on cars other than minis. It would be rediculous to ban any normal mini tyres because they are almost impossible to get in Ireland

It'll be fun for the first mini down in Cork on Saturday, cos that'll all have to be explained to the COC etc. I just got an email from Cork Motor Club with the banned list.

RE : Forbidden Tyres |
|
Would it not be a lot easier to list 3 or 4 control tyres that you must use on the drive axle instead of what you are not allowed to use.
for example :
10" Yokohama a008 165x10
13" Yokohama a539 175x13
14" Yokohama a539 185x14
Rear tyres on FWD can use anything and Front steering tyres on RWD can use anything !

Now we know how to get a reaction from the mini drivers I reckon the minis should be forced to use greased remoulds to even the competition with the larger cars!

And what about larger engined saloons using 135/80/13s on the front.
