in theory : None. The route instructions are all by tulip !

Rule one of navigating : ALWAYS KNOW WHERE YOU ARE ON THE MAP !

So : I'm bringing 50 and 56 : the route runs over both sheets

Thanks to Ian and all the marshalls for a great night last night. Also thanks to Paul for the results and Frank for the yard. I now have an even greater respect for navigators than I had before - Their job is not as easy as They make it look !

Yes, A great event to give us a small taste for basic navigation. Thanks to all those who marshalled including all the effort by Ian and Frank.

I have been advised by Felix that there is/was some confusion regarding the timing after the Passage Check during the Regularity section of the Treasure Hunt. As it said in the instructions at the bottom of the Time Card, the timing subsequent to this point was independent of the previous section. What this meant in practice is that you should have noted the distance travelled at the Passage Check, worked out the time that you should have arrived there, looked at your Time Card, noted the difference and adjusted the remaining ideal times by this amount – simple as that.

If you really wish to come to terms fully with the intricacies of Regularities you will need to come to the McCulloch/Fagan Navigation Extravaganza in the autumn.

To attack Regularities properly you need a twin tripmeter which many of you didn’t have last Wednesday, so it was always going to be difficult for you. However, getting the Regularity wrong should not result in you getting lost. It was vital, given the fog that was about, to have completed the calibration check. Those of you who didn’t do that – not mentioning any names Dermot Nolan – will have put yourselves at a disadvantage.
