9th April 2011: TDC Trial |
|
On the 9th April 2011 TDC will hold a trial event on the east coast starting at the Summerhill House Hotel in Enniskerry. This will be a Multi-venue style event with some Navigational elements between test sites. The Regularities will be of a simple form with none of the complexities of the typical retro event.
More details to follow..

I have heard some misgivings regarding this event:
1. It will be too easy for hardened Retro navigators.
2. It will be too difficult for novices.
In response:
1. This may well be the case but if you do come along you should be able to better enjoy the views than usual. Also, you should have more opportunity to appreciate the skill of your driver. Finally, you can offer assistance to, and do some proseletysing among, those in Category 2 with a view to encoraging them to come out on more challenging events in the future.
2. It won't be. All you will need for the Regularities is a one-line "Brantz" and a time-of-day clock/watch which reads Hours, Minutes, Seconds. You won't need "Tables". Ideal times from the start of the regularity will be given for every 0.3 mile or so. These will reflect any speed changes - you won't have to anything. A "normal" Tulip will define each regularity. To get yourself from one regularity/test to another, Sheets 56 & 62 Discovery Series will be needed. If there are any fiddly bits there will be a Tulip.
If the above doesn't allay your fears come along to the Treasure Hunt on 23rd, 6:30pm, at which all will be revealed.

I'll be at the treasure hunt tomorrow night if any one wants to bring along their entry for the TDC Trial. Some of you were very quick off the mark as I have a few entries already and I'll post an updated list on Thursday night.

Its not mentioned in the regs, but just to note that only road legal tyres allowed for this event, no tyres marked "for rally use" or "for competition use" may be used. You will not pass scrutiny.
Also, there will be amendments to regs with regards to test and navigation penalties within the coming week. These will be posted on this thread.
Any other questions with regards to any other aspect of the event, feel free to ask.

I am in need of a navigator for this event - in the MG Midget which is fully equipped with all the right 'toys' on your side - novice or expert no problem

This event has a strong and varied entry list - thanks to everyone who has sent in their entries and I'm sure you will all enjoy the tests!
Don't forget all drivers need IRDS / BRDS Insurance and all navigators need a MI/ MSA licence.
See you Saturday
Patricia

Dear Competitor
Please find attached:
· Entry List.
· Revised Regulations, including complete list of penalties. (You will not be required to stop at a “YIELD” sign on the approach to a roundabout – you must stop at all other YIELD signs. Also, contrary to what you might infer from the Penalties, there won’t be any Code Boards on the Regularities in this event.)
· Map showing the locations of the elements making up the event
· Map references so that you can plot the route in advance. (The roadbook, which you will receive at Documentation, will include “Tulips” to eliminate any ambiguity).
· Final Instructions 1
· Two documents (Sample Regularity Extract, Regularity Advice) which try to explain how you should approach the Regularities
Looking forward to seeing you at the crack of dawn on Saturday.
