Best of luck to Eamonn Byrne who is deputising for DC in the Alfa on the Classic Marathon which starts from Santander in Northern Spain on Sunday and runs until next Friday. Iain Tullie will be in the hot seat for the event.
Also best of luck to Joe Reynolds/Fred Bent, Frank Fennell/Mark Appleton and Tom Hayes/Kevin Rooney.
results will be updated on the CRA website http://www.classicrally.org.uk/classicmarathon2011/index.html during the course of the event

Looks like a bad day for Eamonn and Iain, seems to be maximums on the final three regularities today dropping them right down the leaderboard, FrankF and Mark Appleton have moved into third overall and Joe and Fred are in sixth after Leg2

Update from Anthony
Eamonn and Iain had a bad day. Hedgasket failed just before lunch. They got the car to overnight halt. Then Eamonn and Ronnie changed the headgasket using spare from Frank Fennell. Car seems ok so they are out again tomorrow

Well the change of head gasket on the Alfa seems to have worked yesterday and today but unfortunately so much time was lost with the penalties from missing the regularities that Eamonn and Iain are languishing ant the wrong end of the leader board despite some good results in the regularities and tests during Legs 3 and 4. Frank F has moved into 2nd 21seconds behind the lead MGB of Mark Godfrey but is only 2 seconds ahead of Howard Warren. Joe Reynolds has dropped back to 8th overall at the end of Leg4 and the other Irish crew of Tom Hayes and Kevin Rooney in the 2002tii have retired.
Tomorrows penultimate leg takes the crews from Guitiriz to Avilés and is the second longest day of the event

3rd overall for FrankF and Mark Appleton at the end of the 23rd Classic Maraton, Howard and Matt Warren in a Porsche 911 managed to leapfrog the Alfa into 2nd place with Mark & Sue Godfrey in an MGB holding on for the win after a gruelling 6 days in Northern Spain. Joe Reynolds and Fred Bent brought the BMW 1600-2 Alpina home in 9th place and Eamonn Byrne and Iain Tullie after their blown head gasket earlier in the week and then suspension trouble brought the Carnegie Alfa home in 21st place overall.
The big news from day4 was that Ronnie Griffin lost his shirt, but he wasn't gambling.
From the CRA report
One of our sweep crew also decided, well perhaps more by accident that he’d like a new wardrobe and having failed to properly secure the back of his truck he took off down the motorway only to stop at the toll booth and be told that the back of his truck was open – along the way his bag of clean clothes had been lost…. Not the smallest of men he was last seen asking around the hotel if anybody had any XXXL underwear going spare… It’s not daunted his dedication to duty and having dropped off one broken car he happily got back in the truck to go and fetch another, or was it to see if he could find his missing clothes!
