Post may buy car off a member but need a loan of back seats, nct Reply with quote
well guys i went to my first event in Punchestown and witnessed a crash so im going starlet instead of mx5 i reckon. I am looking at a car belong to a member here who has the rear seats removed for the bar and harness to be attached for the buckets in the front. i Spoke with the nct and they said i need back functioning seats and belts. If i go for this car, can somebody loan me seats and belts to pass the test? my only other option is to have the log book changed to 2 seater or buy somethin else. any advice or comments welcome. oh and its a 1990 starlet

This is not correct. The NCT can only test the item if its there.

I put my 1989 Competition Boxy Starlet through NCT this morning....no rear seat ( I removed it as there were no rear belts) just four point harness for the front. I left the sump guard on. It has a hydraulic handbrake and the original mechanical one is still in place and working. The rear windows ( a 5 Dr Boxy) are sealed and do not open. The rear doors do not open.

Result - no issues with all of this stuff...........

I think i will go down and ask a tester because that was the information given to me. The car im looking at is 3door so no back doors or opening windows(i think). the handbrake is available to go back on for the test so too are the front seat belts. My head is wrecked trying to get a car to pass nct/ insurance etc. Only just got quote for this car; classic insurance 430euro, normal insurance 640 or give up my no claims on the subaru for 560 insurance.

No back seats is not a failure, they should just mark it on the sheet that there are none fitted

My previous Starlet had only 2 front seats and harness's. Passed without comment. It does help if you tell them when handing it over that it's a rally car as none of them have rear seats, but still require an NCT.
