Last years tests proved very popular with all competitors so our CoC is busy working hard on designing more of the same. There will be 18 open and flowing tests in 16 different locations. You will encounter all types of terrain in farm yards, quarries, fields and the tests will suit everyone. The day will commence with tea and coffee at Cow Lane Cottage, Burgage, followed by the first yard type test in the same location so make sure to top up your caffeine levels before you start the day as this is going to be a fun filled busy day. The entry fee includes tea and coffee at sign on , lunch rolls and a delicious Bar B Q at the finish. Thank you to everyone who has sent in their entry and we'll have more information on the tests in the next week or so.

Plans are well under way for what is shaping up to be a fantastic day. Everyone enjoyed this event last year so Declan our CoC has more of the same in store on August 31st. The tests will be similar to last year. i.e. simple, open and flowing, which will suit of levels of drivers. Declan has managed to secure another location so there will now be 19 exciting tests. There are two new loose quarry sites that are sure to prove demanding and depending on weather conditions, these will throw up additional challenges like dust which we all encountered on the recent BIRR event.
The morning loop will consist of nine tests, two of which are in sand pits. Next up will be a series of farmyard tests, each will have their own unique set of obstacles and different types of terrain to test
your driving skills. To further whet your appetite, there will be a long flowing test in a field and then you will get a chance to have a break to see how you are faring out on the time sheets. The fun will continue in the afternoon with a series of slippy farmyard tests and another visit to a sand pit where you can hone your driving on the loose skills. You will then return to the Burgage for a final yard test before tucking in to the well deserved barbeque.
We already have a wide and varied mix of cars ranging from Mini’s to Celica’s entered and we’ll post the updated entry list early next week. Thank you to everyone who has sent in their entries and please get in touch with me if you have any queries.

Kevin O'Rourke deservedly took the top spot on the podium on the TDC April Multivenue and he was closely chased by Damien Doran on that occasion, so we are sure to see another epic battle amongst these two top contenders with John McAssy hot on their heels.
Brian Kingston has very successfully made the switch from RWD Stryker racing to Autotesting and has shown that he is now very adept at circling pylons in his Starlet. Local man Mick Fisher will be keen for a good result on home turf as will Mark Nugent who is a former winner of the TDC Autotest beginners championship and he will have no difficulty with negotiating lines or pylons. Karl Grehan will be making a welcome return to Blessington in his immaculately prepared Starlet and he has David McAulay for company. We are delighted that Ron Mullen is joining us in his Sunny, he is always quick and tidy around the quarries in Co Wicklow. Jack Quinn refuses to go the Japanese route and is driving his reliable Peugeot 309 which he throws about with great dexterity despite its size.
The effervescent Dermot Carnegie has switched from his Mark 1 Escort to the Mini Cooper for this event. He is always a joy to watch on the yards tests as he makes it look so easy as the Mini swap ends with military precision. Regular autotester, James Mansfield is another driver who is very accustomed to his Mini and he will be sure to feature well on the time sheets.
The Gaffney family will be out in force, Glyn is driving the more unusual Celica and Karen has decided to try her hand at RWD drive in an MX-5 and I'm sure she will keep all the other RWD competitors on their toes. Piers Mac Fheorais will be hard to beat in his MX-5 but rest assured Dave Fitzgerald in another MX-5 will do his utmost to make sure Piers doesn't have it all his own way. Martin Nugent is another driver who favours steering from the rear and he is always tidy in his Mark 1 Escort and he has the miniscule MG Midget of Malcolm Clarke which will be ideal for the yard type tests, for company.
The tests are drawn and look fantastic, open and flowing on all sorts of terrain!
If anyone else would like to join us for a great days fun, please send in your entry and help us raise much needed funds for the Laura Lynn Children Hospice.

Trish - does the IRDS requirement apply to double drivers who won't be driving on public road sections? Or is one driver with IRDS ok so long as they drive on the road sections?

Brian :
you are on the money. It's a Road Traffic Act compliance issue for the road sections between tests, so only one driver needs IRDS letter and cover. And they MUST drive the road sections.

The front wheel drive class is going to be very competitive with the addition of five Starlets. Eamonn Byrne had a very successful outing last weekend at the Bournemouth Endurance Trial and he will be on form this weekend in Blessington. Cork ace, Liam Cashman never fails to impress on all sorts of terrain and he will have Frank Lenehan nipping at his heels all day. John Nolan makes a welcome return back to Autotesting in his well prepared Starlet, and he is sure to have it firing on all cylinders. Philip O'Reilly is another driver who will be aiming for the top end of the time sheets. Local man James Fisher will be keen to have a good run ( and beat his brother Mick !). Harold Hassard drives his Nissan Sunny with gusto and displays great agility and precision despite its size.
There are 19 fantastic tests in all sorts of locations i.e. quarries, pits, farmyards and fields, each with their own unique set of challenges:)
If anyone has any seeding requests or would like to join in the fun please contact me at patricia@tdcireland.com by tomorrow evening as our CoC will be doing the seeding on Thursday. We will also be posting final instructions online before the weekend.
