Getting cars to events |
|
This follows on from a discussion that was on Octane about options for bringing non road legal cars to trackdays.
I'm wondering how most people whose autotest cars aren't road legal get them to events.
Does anyone actually have a category EB licence? (for towing trailers > 750kgs)

Well myself and Trish are looking for a 4X4 at the moment to tow the trailer/car. We usually get to borrow a van or 4X4, but they are not always available... When we are stuck I tow with my car but its not really up to the job as we have 4 race cars, one of which is quite heavy compared to the autotest car...

We will only ever trailer a vehicle if the distance is greater than that we wish to travel in a bumpy noisey Midget.
Almost every event will see us with the roof down and tools in the boot Which in our opinion is how it should be, however, trailering vehicles to events due to lack of road worthiness i think has to be something looked at deeper by scrutineers. Is the car non-road-worthy due to being rotten or dangerous or is it due to the fact its a purpose built vehicle which was never intended for road use.
The dangerous option is one that should try and be eliminated from all Irish events across the board (apart from destruction derby of course )

Hi Peter, I agree with your sentiments with regard to the Retro/multivenue cars.. We usually only tow ours if its a long distance event in case it breaks down or is damaged...
